Floods at Appleton Wiske 25 September 2012

In this wet year, we’ve had another dose of rain and floods.

Appleton Wiske is wisely sited: the ancients who founded the village built their houses a little way from the river, on slightly higher ground. We hope that this will protect our homes.

But the fields around the river always flood, and here are some pictures of today’s flooding.

The road to Deighton was deep enough to deter drivers of ordinary cars. A friend walked into it but retreated when it reached to within an inch of the top of her wellington boots.

This field was recently ploughed. Such a shame that it’s now flooded.
