We have a hedgehog in the garden!
Years ago, there were lots of hedgehogs around -usually flattened on the road by passing traffic. There were so many run-over hedgehogs, that a hedgehog was used as a mascot in campaigns to teach children road safety.
Now, you rarely see a hedgehog – I guess too many got killed.
So it was great to see one in the garden – here’s a picture:
The hedgehog ate some fat that we’d put out for the birds. I hope it does him/her good.
Over the years, my garden has become increasingly popular with wildlife. I think it’s mainly because I planted a lot of shrubs and trees, which provide cover and a long-running supply of food such as slugs, worms, nectar, berries and insects.
I love to see the birds and animals, as well as the trees and flowers. However, my garden is no longer my own. Whenever I venture down there, I feel accusing eyes boring into me, willing me to get out of THEIR patch.
