Appleton Wiske Scarecrow Festival is here again, on 2 and 3 July 2016.
Each year, the festival gets bigger, with more to see and more to do. New this year is a demonstration of woodturning, and a barbecue, as well as the mountains of homemade cakes in the village hall.
Yet again, there are lovingly handcrafted scarecrows depicting a wide variety of characters. Spider man crawls across a house; a drunken bin man climbs out of a recycling bin. There are characters from film, TV and well loved books. And there are witty scarecrows, fresh and unique from the imaginations of their creators.
Designing and creating the scarecrows gives a lot of satisfaction to those involved, who can be justifiably proud of what they have made.
Here are pictures of just a few of these cleverly-made effigies.
